About Block Puzzle

Block Puzzle is a relaxed but tricky placement game. You get 3 pieces at a time and an 8 × 8 grid. Fit the pieces onto the board, and every row or column you fill completely is cleared, making room for more.

There is no timer, so you can think through every move. The game ends only when none of your pieces fit anywhere, so the real challenge is keeping space open for whatever comes next.

Block Puzzle rules

Placing pieces

Pieces cannot be rotated and must fit entirely on empty squares. You can place the pieces in any order. A piece that cannot fit anywhere right now is shown faded.

Clearing lines

A row or column with every square filled is cleared at once. Filling a row and a column together clears both, and the square where they cross counts once.

Scoring

Every square you place is worth 1 point. Clearing lines scores 10 points times the number of lines squared: 1 line is 10, 2 lines at once are 40 and 3 lines are 90. Emptying the whole board adds a 300-point perfect-clear bonus.

Streaks

Clearing at least one line with each of several pieces in a row builds a streak. The line bonus is multiplied by the streak: ×2 on the second clear in a row, ×3 on the third, and so on. A piece that clears nothing ends the streak.

New pieces

You get 3 new pieces once you have placed all 3. They are random, but every new set includes at least one piece that fits the board at that moment.

Game over and saving

The game ends when none of your remaining pieces fit. A game in progress is saved in this browser after every move, so you can close the page and carry on later. Your best score is saved too.

Tips and strategy

  • Keep the middle of the board open. Big pieces like the 3 × 3 square need a clear block of space.
  • Before placing, look at all three pieces and decide the order. The last piece is often the hardest to fit.
  • Build towards lines that the pieces you are holding can finish, so you clear on consecutive moves and grow a streak.
  • Avoid leaving single empty squares surrounded by blocks. Only the smallest pieces can fill them.
  • Clearing two lines at once is worth four times one line, so it can pay to wait and finish them together.

Frequently asked questions

Can I rotate the pieces?

No. Pieces always keep the orientation they are dealt in, which is part of the challenge. Different orientations of the same shape appear as separate pieces.

Is there a time limit?

No. Take as long as you like over each move. The game only ends when none of your pieces fit.

Are the pieces really random?

Yes, with one guarantee: every new set of three includes at least one piece that fits the board at that moment. Smaller pieces come up more often than large ones.

Will I lose my game if I close the page?

No. Your game is saved in this browser after every move and continues when you come back on the same device. Your best score is kept too.

Can I play on my phone?

Yes. Drag pieces with your finger; the piece floats just above your fingertip so you can see where it will land. You can also tap a piece and then tap the board.
